In "Monty Python And The Holy Grail." King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table embark on a surreal search for the Holy Grail, encountering many, very silly obstacles. (Gary Reber)

The 1.85:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on 35 mm film using the Arriflex 35 BL camera system and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. Film grain is for the most par smooth and not objectionable but in some sequences grain is far more obvious. The color palette tends to be a bit bland though colors often exhibit saturated hues that are warm and rich, The animation is also nicely saturated. At times colors pop with intensity. Flesh tones appear generally natural though at times reddish. HDR contrast exhibits deep blacks, revealing shadows and generally natural whites. Resolution is mostly excellent with fine detail exhibited throughout in facial features, such as pores, lines, beard stubble and beards, as well as costumes, stone façades, natural settings, the earthen mud, dirt, and stone shadings, all of which appear natural. Image depth is good. This Monte Python classic is a generally satisfying visual experience for its age. (Gary Reber)

The repurposed Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack has been significantly modified from the original monaural release. Remarkably, the soundtrack utilizes all the sound elements to create a spatial dimensional experience. Atmospherics, such as wind and the birds of the forest, permeates the sound field. Sound effects and Foley sound effects enhance the sound of thunder, galloping coconuts, sword clangs, and thrown objects, such as the "Holy Hand Grenade", The orchestral/choral score images across the soundstage with extension through the surrounds. Surrounds are very active. It is during sound effects that there is bass support. The .1 LFE channel erupts with explosions and other effects such as hundreds of charging men. Dialogue is the focus and sounds intelligible with generally good spatial integration. The accents and screechy voices are an essential aspect of the humor.

The Immersive Sound element is very spotty with the occasional atmospheric, dialogue (such as the voice of God, music and sound effect, with at times just the front height channel and at other times just the rear, or all channels active. This results in an ineffective height layer.

The disc includes includes "Subtitles for People Who Do Not Like The Film (From Henry IV pt. 11).

Overall, this is a fun holosnix® soundtrack that will thrill fans of Monte Python humor. (Gary Reber)
