The 1.85:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on 35 mm Kodak film using the Panavision Panaflex Millennium XL2 and Panavision Panaflex Platinum camera systems and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The setting are urban and predominently interiors –– electronics store, apartments, and nightclub. Film grain is generally smooth and unobjectionable. The color palette is nicely saturated with rich and warm hues. Colors often pop. Flesh tones are perfectly natural. HDR contrast is excellent. Black levels are deep and solid. Shadow delineation is revealing. White levels appear realistic with excellent lighting and illumination. Resolution is reveling of fine detail in facial and body features including skin pores, lines, chest hair, beard stubble and beards. Clothing fabrics are revealing. Structural and object textures are realistically detailed, such as the Monster Cable backgrounds. This is a brightly lit and good looking picture that delivers the laughs. (Gary Reber)
The repurposed Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue focused with support delivered by realistic atmospherics and fun sound effects. Atmospherics are often active in the SmartTech consumer electronics store, bars and outdoor settings. Sound effects add the occasional punch effect. The music is presented with good fidelity and soundstage and surround envelopment. Bass response is supported though not deep or powerful. Dialogue is intelligible throughout with generally good spatial integration and clear nuances.
The Immersive Sound element consists solely of an extension of the music to the height layer, which at times is either at a very low level or strong level. the music is infrequent. Of course, so many more scenes could have been treated but were not.
This is a fun holosonic® soundtrack with funny dialogue that is entertaining throughout. (Gary Reber)
