In "Lost In Space," the year is 2058. With Earth on the blink of collapse, The Robinson family is chosen to lead a critical mission to colonize a distant planet aboard the Jupiter 2 spacecraft. But the mission is sabotaged by the traitorous Dr. Zachary Smith (Gary Oldman), and the ship veers off course and plunges throiugh a rift in space-time, leaving the Robinsons stranded in an unknown universe. Now lost in a hostile alien galaxy, the family must trek through treacherous environments, battle deadly creatures, and avoid Smith's unpredictable schemes. As tensions rise and survival becomes uncertain, their greatest challenge may be holding together as a family. The film is thrilling tribute to the 1960s TV series. (Gary Reber)

The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed on 35 mm Kodak Vision and Eastman film using the Panavision Panaflex Millennium camera system and sourced from a 4K restoration by Arrow Films from the original camera negative to create a master Digital Intermediate. The setting surrounds one with advanced technology exhibited in the Jupiter 2 spacecraft. The production design is amazing as are the intricate sets and planetary environments. The set designs are extremely complex and imaginative. Visual effects and CGI enhance the excitement. Film grain is very smooth and virtually non-existent, Color fidelity is superb with nicely saturated hues that exhibit richness and warmth. Hues favor cool metallic tones such as blues and greens with spots of contrast exhibited in the humans and their outfits. Alien life exhibits varied hues, as well as sun-bright oranges and yellows. Flesh tones appear natural. HDR contrast is excellent. Black levels ere inky with revealing texture. Shadow delineation is excellent and revealing. White levels are brilliant. The lighting design is terrific with lots of bright spot shadowy light sources Resolution is superb. The imagery is sharp and clear throughout. Facial features and complexions appear natural. Skin surfaces, pores, lines, beards and hair are nicely defined. Clothing and space uniforms are nicely defined with revealing texture. Structural features are elaborate and detailed. Objects also are complex, such as the weaponry, guns and the robot, There is much complexity to the imagery. This is a visually exciting and compelling visual experience that is fantastically imaginative. Viewers will not be disappointed. This is a stunning visual experience. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel soundtrack delivers a powerfully dynamic sonic experience that spans every channel. Perfectly-integrated sound effects are in abundance with dynamic transient attack. Explosions, thunder and earthquake-like rumbles, as well as spaceship sounds are intense. Gunfire spills out in all direction with impactful power. Foley sound effects effectively enhance the sense of realism. Atmospherics are enveloping and fill the entire sound field. Front soundstage imaging is nicely discrete with dimensional imaging. Surround envelopment is aggressive and directional, and seemingly constant. Sound effects engage every channel. Panning effects are appreciable. Bass extension is deep and powerful. The .1 LFE channel excites frequencies down to sub-20 Hz. The orchestral score is nicely recorded. Instrumentation is clear. The music occupies a wide and deep soundstage that aggressively extends to the surrounds for sound field envelopment. Dialogue is intelligible throughout, even during intense action sequences, with generally good spatial integration. There is, of course, ADR production, but it is treated well. The robot's bass-y voicing and AI announcements on the spacecraft, as well as occasional dialogue is projected out of screen, This is a perfect production for a height layer treatment. Regardless, this is an exceptional holosonic® soundtrack with incredible intensity and dynamics, as well as dimensionality. This is a perfect soundtrack to demonstrate the capabilities of a capable home theatre system. (Gary Reber)
