In "But I'm A Cheerleader," a naive teenager is sent to rehab camp when her straitlaced parents and friends suspect her of being a lesbian. (Gary Reber)

Special features include commentary with Director Jamie Babbit, Costume Designer Alix Friedberg, and Production Designer Rachel Kamerman, "Beyond The Pink And Blue: A Conversation With Jamie Babbit" (HD 11:46) and the featurettes "But I'm a Cheerleader Class Reunion" (HD 20:47), "Making But I'm A Cheerleader...In 1999" (HD 08:16), and "But I'm A Composer...A Chat With Pat Irwin" (HD 05:26), Student Film: "Discharge" (SD 0:58) and theatrical trailer.

The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD HDR10/Dolby Vision picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. Grain is smooth and never a distraction. Whether on the football field or off, the color palette is vividly saturated, with warm hues that pop. In particular, pinks, reds, greens, purples and blues really pop with intensity. Outdoor scenes tend to be bright while interior scenes can be stylized with dark, virtually black, highlights against very colorful appointments. At all times the palette bursts with color. Flesh tones tend to favor naturalness but at times appear reddish. HDR contrast is bold with deep, solid blacks, revealing shadows and brilliant white levels. Resolution is revealing of fine detail in facial features and complexions, clothing fabrics, and in structural and object textures. This a picture that bursts with intense color that lights up the screen. (Gary Reber)

The repurposed Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue focused and generally forward sounding, though the surrounds deliver mostly nuanced energy except for the music, which provides an energy boost to the proceedings. The outdoor camp segments benefits from surround envelopment of ambient environmental effects. The graduation scene provides one of the most aggressive sonics with parents applauding. The music is the element that excites the surrounds with the most aggressive presence. The music though tends to have a somewhat narrow soundstage width. Dialogue is rendered intelligible with generally good spatial integration.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of an extension of the music to the height layer. Nuanced dialogue can also be heard as well as nuanced atmospherics and graduation applause and screams. Far more treatment would have more effectively enhanced dimensionality.

This is a fun holosonic® soundtrack with the music delivering the dimensional element. (Gary Reber)
