The 2.39:1 and beginning 1.78:1 formatted scene HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally in anamorphic Blazar Scope using the Arri Alexa 35, Red Komodo and Teledyne FLIR T1020 camera systems and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The setting is a football training facility comprised of two gigantic circular buildings out in a desert. Picture quality is good. The color palette exhibits saturated hues that are warm, Colors pop such as crimson uniforms, the green playing field and blood. Other areas of the facility are comprised of plain earthy sand-colored or green-colored walls with black doorways, There are a couple of brief black-and-white segments that are stylized. Flesh tones appear natural and realistic. HDR contrast is well balanced with deep black levels, revealing shadows and stylized illuminated lighting, Resolution is revealing of fine detail in facial features, such as skin pores, lines, beards and hair, Uniforms and clothing fabrics are revealing. Structural and set features, and objects exhibit texture. This is a weird composition of strange and eerily horrific visuals. (Gary Reber)
The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding. Atmospherics sound realistic. Sound effects are often intense, especially powerful rifle fire and football catches. The synthesizer music and orchestra/choral score is often powerful sounding with supportive deep pounding bass and .1 LFE impact. Bass transients also support intensifying the sound effects. Dialogue is generally intelligible with good spatial integration.
The Immersive Sound element is comprised primarily of the music and choir, with a few minor sound effects and bursts of brief dialogue extended to the height layer. Generally, the music is effective in enhancing dimensionality, but far more could have been accomplished.
This is a strong sounding holosonic®d soundtrack with an eerie mysterious sound design that excites the sound field. (Gary Reber)
