In "The Emperor's New Groove," Emperor Kuzco (David Spade) thinks he has it all: a devoted populace to rule over, a wardrobe of glamorous garb and his unwavering "groove." But his world is turned upside down when he's turned into a llama by his ex-administrator Yzma (Eartha Kitt), and her hunky henchman Kronk (Peter Warburton). Forced into an unlikely alliance with the gentle llama herder Pache (John Goodman), Kuzco must now regain his throne and his human form with Pache's help. (Gary Reber)

The 1.66:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 Ultra HD HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Bell & Howell 2709 camera system and sourced from an upscaled 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The picture exhibits a vividly warm color palette that is wonderfully saturated with strong primaries that pop. Reds, yellows and oranges reveal nuanced tones, as well as blues and purples. The animation moves fast and is defined by the colors and the lines that form the characters, landscapes, palace, village and objects. Everything works together to deliver a totally captivating visual experience. HDR contrast is excellent. Blacks are inky black. Animated shadows follow the characters. White levels are satisfyingly illuminated. The entire picture is bright and vivid. Resolution is excellent as in the sharpness of the lines. Textures are limited as the lines that define characters and objects are the prominent feature. This is a wonderfully colorful Disney classic that is a very funny visual experience that will thrill the family. (Gary Reber)
The repurposed Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue focused backed with an energetic orchestral and vocal song score and occasional sound effects such as a strong thunder storm and waterfall, as well as transient effect boosts. The music is dynamic sounding and occupies a wide and deep soundstage with aggressive surround envelopment. There are numerous outdoor ambient environmental effects that provide surround envelopment as well. Bass extension sounds natural and is supportive of the music and sound effects. Foley sound effects work magically. Dialogue is ADR produced with excellent intelligibility with occasional directionality.
The Immersive Sound element is comprised of a strong extension of the music and vocals, subtle dialogue, at times distinctively directional, and village chatter, occasional sound effects including Foley, thunder and waterfall sounds and more. This is an effective height layer with music a prominent sound element that nicely enhances dimensionality.
This is a very active holosonic® spherical surround soundtrack with excellent fidelity. (Gary Reber)
