"Hazbin Hotel: Season One" is an adult animated musical series that follows Charlie, the Princess of Hell, as she pursues her seemingly impossible goal of rehabilitating demons to peacefully reduce overpopulation in her kingdom. After a yearly extermination that was imposed by heaven, she opens a hotel in the hopes that patrons will be "checking out" after proving their souls are redeemable. (Gary Reber)

The 1.78:1 1080p picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally and sourced from a 4K master Digital Intermediate format. The animation is comprised of precise black line drawings of characters and set backdrops with solid color fill and shaded stripe bands. The standout element is the color palette with nicely saturated hues that pop. The colors are diverse but the main hues are in the red and purple spectrum. Contrast is excellent. Blacks are deep and solid. Shadows, to the extent they appear, are solid grays. Whites never appear really bright but are well composed. Resolution is limited to the line detail. This is a simplistic animated presentation that is stylistic in appearance. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1-channel dialogue-focused soundtrack is reserved in dynamics and sonic impact. Every sound element is artifically created. Atmospherics are severely limited and mostly absent. Sound effects, as well, are limited. The orchestra score propels the action. As well, the soundtrack has elements of a quasi-musical presentation. The music lacks a strong presence with reserved extended bass. Surround envelopment is provided by the music in every episode. Dialogue is ADR derived and intelligible though an obvious production, at times extends throughout the sound field. This is a fast-talking holosonic® soundtrack that sounds cartoonish. (Gary Reber)
