"Is This Thing On?" is an intimate story of how love and people in love can evolve over time. As their marriage quietly unravels, Alex (Will Arnett) faces middle age and an impending divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene, while Tess (Laura Dern) confronts the sacrifices she made for their family – forcing them to navigate co-parenting, identity, and whether love can take a new form. (Gary Reber)

Special features include the featurette "Mic Drop: Making Is This Thing On?" (HD 12:47) and a Movies Anywhere digital copy.

The 1.66:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally using the Sony CineAlta Venice 2 camera system and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. The setting is the city, in an apartment, a home and a cellar comedy club. Everything is perfectly realistic, The color palette is warm and rich, and filmic. Colors are nicely saturated. At times, colors pop. Flesht ones appear perfectly natural. HDR contrast is superb. Black levels are deep and solid. Shadows are revealing. White levels sppear realistically illuminated. The sets are nicely detailed and the club scenes are perfectly realistic. Resolution is superb. Facial features, especial during the many closeups,, reveal fine detail in skin pores, lines, beard stubble and hair, This is a wonderful real life experience that will warm the heart. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dialogue focused and driven by a dynamic orchestra score that, at times, features wild drumming that reaches deep into the surrounds with split imaging. The music has a nice forward presence. Atmospherics enhance the realism. Sound effects are supportive and realistic sounding. Foley sound effects perfectly enhance the realism. Bass support sounds natural with excellent support, and at times, excites deep bass in the .1 LFE channel. Surround envelopment is fairly constant with excellent sound field envelopment, especially during the comedy club scenes with a cheering audience that envelops. Dialogue is intelligible throughout with satisfying spatial integration.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of an extension of the music to the height layer, nuanced to not-so-nuanced dialogue, club audience reactions, train station announcement, various sound effects and atmospherics. This is a well-crafted height layer treatment that effectively enhances sound field dimensionality.

This is a well-crafted holosonic®j spherical surround soundtrack with excellent sound field envelopment that unlike so many other dramatic features, effectively uses all the channels. (Gary Reber)
