In "Anaconda," Doug (Jack Black) and Griff (Paul Rudd) have been best friends since they were kids, and have always dreamed of remaking their all-time favorite movie: the cinematic “classic” Anaconda. When a midlife crisis pushes them to finally go for it, they head deep into the Amazon to start filming. But things get real when an actual giant anaconda appears, turning their comically chaotic movie set into a deadly situation. The movie they’re dying to make? It might just get them killed. (Gary Reber)

Special features include the featurettes: "A Ride Into Chaos With Jack & Paul" (HD 05:18), "Friends In The Wild: The Cast" (HD 05:49), "The Snake Charmer: Tom Gormican (HD 04:41) and "Reinventing The Legend: Anaconda" (HD 04:33); hiss-terical outtakes & bloopers (HD 03:10); four d eleted & extended acenes (HD 04:31) and a Movies Anywhere digital copy.

The 2.39:1 2160p HEVC/H.265 4K Ultra HD Dolby Vision/HDR10 picture, reviewed on a VIZIO Quantum X P85QX-JI UHD/HDR display, was photographed digitally in anamorphic Panavision® using the Arri Alexa 35 and Sony ILME-FX6V camera systems and sourced from a 4K Digital Intermediate. For the most part the setting is in Amazon river jungle and a boat. Color fidelity exhibits nicely saturated hues that appear generally warm. The hue spectrum and Earth tones appear natural with nuances. Flesh tones are naturally hued. HDR contrast is wide with bright daylight scenes and dark night scenes. Blacks are deep. Shadows reveal nuanced shadings. White levels appear naturally illuminated. Resolution is excellent. The imagery is sharp and clear. Facial features reveal detailed complexions, skin pores, lines, beard stubble, beards and hair. Costumes fabrics are detailed. Environmental backdrops appear natural andrealistic . The boats are realistic and object textures are revealing, This is a visually satisfying fun family visual experience. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby Atmos/Dolby TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is dynamic sounding. Jungle atmospherics are galore and realistic. Sound effects are varied with zigzagging snake sounds, gunfire, explosions and all manner of movement effects. Foley sound effects are effectively synced to picture. Bass support is deep and accentuates the effects. The .1 LFE is quite active with powerful bass energy. The orchestra and classic rock/pop music score is wonderful and a dominant element. The music spans a wide and deep soundstage with an aggressive enveloping surround presence. Dialogue is intelligible but largely ADR produced. Still, spatial integration is satisfying.

The Immersive Sound element is comprised of an often aggressive extension of the orchestra score to the height layer as well as diverse atmospherics, and a few nuanced sound effects. The music and atmospheric treatment of the height layer provides satisfying enhancement of dimensionality.

This is a dynamic holosonic® soundtrack that delivers fun entertainment. (Gary Reber).
