Subscribe FreeSam Raimi's feature film debut gained the support of Stephen King, censorship in the U.K., a large cult following, and two sequels. Five young vacationers — Ash (Bruce Campbell), his girlfriend Linda (Betsy Baker), Cheryl (Ellen Sandweiss), Scott (Hal Delrich), and Shelly (Sarah York)—stop for a night in an abandoned mountain cabin in the woods. There, they come across a reel-to-reel tape recorder and "The Book Of The Dead," filled with incantations used to summon "The Evil Dead." The fun leads to evil spirits possessing them one-by-one, leaving Ash in one hell of a predicament. His only way out is through a lot of bloodshed and gore. (Suzanne Hodges)
