In Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, the Cold War is as its height and Britain's Secret Service Intelligence Service (SIS), a.k.a. MI6 and code named the Circus, has been compromised. An ever-watchful former top lieutenant and career spy, George Smiley (Oldman), is called out of retirement by the government to help identify and track a suspected mole at the top of the agency. The list of suspects is narrowed to five men. Even before the startling truth is revealed, the emotional and physical tolls on the players enmeshed in the deadly international spy game will escalate. Based on the novel by John le Carré. (Gary Reber)

Special features include commentary with Director Tomas Alfredson and Actor Gary Oldman; interviews with Actors Oldman, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Director Alfredson, and Screenwriter Peter Straughan; deleted scenes (HD 06:08); the featurette Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy: First Look (HD 13:00); BD-Live functionality; and an UltraViolet digital copy.

The 2.35:1 1080p AVC picture is wonderfully stylized to convey a several decades-old Britain, which creates a haunting collage of images. The grain structure exhibits an engaging cinematic picture. The color palette is slightly subdued, but fleshtones remain accurately portrayed. Contrast is well balanced with deep blacks and revealing shadow delineation. Resolution is excellent, especially revealing in fine detail of object texture and human characteristics such as facial features, hair, and clothing, yet there is an overall softness to the imagery that plays on the mood. This is a beautifully photographed picture with wonderful cinematography by Hoyte Van Hoytema that is visually engaging throughout. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack features Alberto Iglesias' wonderful and beautifully recorded orchestral music score, with a wide and deep soundstage that aggressively extends to envelop the soundfield. Instrumental timbre is nicely nuanced and revealing. Dialogue also is nicely presented, with generally good spatial integration. Atmospherics and sound effects are appropriately dimensional, with an effective dimensional quality. At times deep .1 LFE energy provides excellent natural-sounding bass emphasis. The overall pace of the soundtrack is slow and steady, with excellent low-level resolution and dynamics. This is a wonderful sonic experience that at times delivers an engaging holosonic® experience that perfectly complements and supports the visuals. (Gary Reber)
