In Splintered, a group of teenagers exploring a creepy abandoned building discover a terrifying creature on a blood-thirsty rampage. Troubled teen Sophie (Weston) drags her friends deep into a forest in search of a local legend—a wild beast, half animal and half man, that uses its cunning ability and brutal strength to kill for pleasure. But when the beast leads Sophie and her friend, John (Sol Heras), to an abandoned orphanage, the hunters become the hunted. (Gary Reber)

Special features include a behind-the-scenes featurette in ten parts: The Beginning (HD 02:49), CGI (03:05), Cinematography (HD 04:09), Design (HD 03:33), Music (HD 03:04), Prosthetics & Make-Up (HD 02:41), Shooting A Scene (HD 03:17), The Designer (HD 06:22), The Actors (HD 07:33), and The Director (HD 06:03); seven deleted scenes; and two alternate endings.

The 2.35:1 1080p AVC picture was shot digitally with the Red One HD camera and exhibits a dark, desaturated visual appearance. Filtering appears in the form of greens and blues, to create a stylistic look. The result is a presentation that is overly dark and thus veiled in resolution and shadow delineation. Blacks are crushed, and shadow delineation simply does not exist. Overall, this is a badly photographed and presented picture that is undistinguished. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is effectively eerie, with a substantial .1 LFE presence that extends bass to sub-25 Hz frequencies. Sound effects and atmospherics are nicely delivered to heighten the suspense and thrills. The surrounds are active during the sound effects and throughout the music presentation. Fidelity is quite good, though, dialogue is at times difficult to comprehend. Overall, this is an effectively creepy soundtrack, with relatively good dynamics and deep bass extension that provides dramatic intensity. (Gary Reber)
