In an isolated, slowly dying mining town, children are vanishing without a trace—abducted, the townsfolk whisper, by a mysterious entity known locally as The Tall Man. Town nurse Julia Denning (Biel) seems skeptical... until her young David disappears in the middle of the night. Frantic to rescue the boy, Julia lives every parent's darkest nightmare. (Gary Reber)

Special features include a visual concepts presentation of still photographs, a deleted scene (HD 03:58), the theatrical trailer, and upfront previews.

The 2.40:1 1080p VC-1 picture is nicely photographed with the Red One digital system. The imagery is hauntingly beautiful and enriches the rundown town and environs of Cold Rock. Contrast is excellent, with deep blacks, and especially excellent shadow delineation during night scenes and within the cavern of the mine. The color palette is stylishly subdued with muted hues. Interior scenes contrast with the muted appearance, with warmth and richness. Resolution is effectively detailed throughout. The overall impression is visually engaging and dramatic. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel soundtrack is aggressively immersive and enveloped, especially during the extended thunder storms and downpour. Atmospherics and special effects deliver realistic sounds appropriate to the soundscapes depicted in mines, tunnels, and failing interiors. Ambiance is a major element, as well as Foley, in this presentation. Bass extension to sub-25 Hz frequencies intensifies the mood. Dialogue sounds generally well integrated, though, at times intelligibility is wanting. The orchestral music score is fully supportive and expansive, with an extension to the surrounds. This is a fine soundtrack that connects, to engage the audience in this suspenseful story. (Gary Reber)
