Inspired by a true story of the epic romance between an ordinary man and the Queen of Denmark, whose love affair sparked a revolution, the Academy Award® and Golden Globe's nominated film for Best Foreign Picture Royal Affair is based on Bodil Steensen-Leth's Erotic Novel Prinsesse af Blodet. Centering on the intriguing love triangle between the insane Danish King, the royal physician, and the young but determined Queen, A Royal Affair is the story of a passionate and forbidden romance that changed an entire nation. (Gary Reber)

Special features include an interview with Mads Mikkelsen, Nikolaj Arcel, and Alicia Vikander; portraits and biographies; the Royal Family Tree; the theatrical trailer; and upfront previews.

The 2.32:1 1080p AVC picture is gorgeously rendered with beautiful, perfectly natural imagery. The color palette is absolutely natural in appearance, with lush and warm hues that exhibit an overall softness that is always engaging. Fleshtones are accurate throughout. Every frame is an artistic composition with dramatic cinematography. Contrast is nicely balanced with deep blacks and revealing shadow delineation. Sharpness and clarity are outstanding, with fine detail revealed in facial features, hair, clothing, and object texture. This is a wonderful cinematic presentation that is compelling throughout. (Gary Reber)

The DTS-HD Master Audio™ 5.1-channel Danish-language soundtrack is terrific, with an expansive soundfield presence intertwined with realistic nuanced atmospherics and sound effects. The orchestral music score is nicely recorded with a wide and deep soundstage presence that extends to the surrounds and envelops. Atmospherics perfectly capture the cavernous feeling of space within the castle and perfectly define every environment. Deep bass in the .1 LFE accompanies the occasional sound effect, such as racing horses. Dialogue is clearly distinguishable in both Danish and English when spoken, with easily readable subtitles. Dialogue is spatially integrated throughout. This is a wonderful holosonic® soundfield experience that perfectly complements the beautiful images. (Gary Reber)
