Based on an unbelievable true story, Pain & Gain features a group of personal trainers (Wahlberg, Johnson, Mackie) in 1990's Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong. (Gary Reber)

There are no special features.

The 2.40:1 1080p AVC picture is stylized throughout, with an intense saturated color palette that pops. The Miami exteriors are rendered with bright, vivid hues that appear intense under the Florida sun. Bright-colored clothes are rich and vibrant. Fleshtones retain a natural presence. Contrast is nicely balanced with deep, solid blacks and revealing shadow delineation. Resolution is excellent, with fine details exhibited in facial features, hair, clothes, and object texture. Beads of sweat are amazingly nuanced. Image clarity is superb, for an engaging, eye-popping visual experience. (Gary Reber)

The Dolby® TrueHD 7.1-channel soundtrack is a dynamic, heavily aggressive sonic presentation. The added two channels in the back of the soundfield conform to the Dolby 7.1 theatrical surround format, which may require a rewiring of your system set up with the surround channels configured to the side rears in a 5.1-channel format. Immersive envelopment is pervasive throughout, with enhanced directionalized surround energy. The well-recorded music score is often pulsing and dynamic sounding. Deep bass in the .1 LFE channel complements and enhances the action sequences and delivers prodigious sub-25 Hz bass. Dialogue is always intelligible, with generally satisfying spatial integration. Overall, this is a high-energy, holosonic® enveloping sonic experience that enhances the intense color palette. (Gary Reber)
