    After breaking curfew one night, the lovely Evey (Portman) is being manhandled by a couple of corrupt cops when a Guy Fawkes-type character arrives and saves the day. V (Weaving) is out For Vendetta, and the powers that be are convinced that Evey is aiding and abetting the masked stranger. But is he for or against her, and is he a good guy or bad? Whatever his intentions may be, the only thing for sure is that he has destruction on his mind. Based on the graphic novel illustrated by David Lloyd and published by Vertigo / DC Comics.     Special features on the HD DVD include an In-Movie Experience entitled Director's Notebook: Reimagining A Cult Classic For The 21st Century, and a Saturday Night Live digital short plus the features found on the standard-definition DVD: a 16-minute featurette entitled Freedom! Forever! Making V For Vendetta. Disc Two includes three featurettes: Designing The Near Future (17 minutes), Remember Remember: Guy Fawkes And The Gunpowder Plot (10 minutes), and England Prevails: V For Vendetta And The New Wave In Comics (15 minutes), a two-minute montage accompanied by Cat Power's "I Found A Reason," and the theatrical trailer.

    While the VC-1-encoded 2.35:1 HD DVD picture can look quite good, fine details are slightly soft. Like the DVD, blacks are not as deep as they should be, looking milky rather than inky. Shadow delineation is good, however, and colors are bright and natural. (Danny Richelieu)

    The Dolby® Digital Plus and lossless Dolby TrueHD 5.1-channel encodings are impressive, with each channel used frequently throughout. The lossless encoding is preferred, as it provides slightly more refined dialogue and noticeably tighter, more impactful bass. (Danny Richelieu)
