Legends Of Jazz With Ramsey Lewis: Showcase is a must-see for jazz lovers of all ages. Some of the biggest and favorite jazz musicians appear on the acclaimed television show and are featured here on this Blu-ray Disc release. (Tricia Spears)

Special features include a photo gallery biographies, and trailers.

The MPEG-2-encoded 1.78:1 Blu-ray Disc image looks superb, with vibrant hues and well-resolved details. Black levels are deep and shadow delineation is good, leading to a highly dimensional image. (Danny Richelieu)

Three soundtrack options are included with the Blu-ray Disc release: 2.0-channel uncompressed linear PCM, lossless 5.1-channel Dolby® TrueHD, and lossy 5.1-channel Dolby Digital. Unfortunately, we did not have access to a Blu-ray Disc player that supports TrueHD decoding, but the Samsung BD-P1000 will output the lossy Dolby Digital stream when the TrueHD soundtrack is selected. This is a well-captured audio presentation, and the mix includes very well-placed images for instruments and vocals across the front stage. Surround envelopment in the multichannel encodings is generally limited to a low level echo, although elements of the drum kit are mysteriously mixed across the back stage. The stereo PCM encoding is actually favored over the lossy Dolby Digital encoding, both because of its increase in fidelity and because of the incredible imaging across the front stage.
