Story Synopsis:
Director Stanley Kubrick’s version of the 1952 Howard Fast novel of a Roman slave revolt focuses on the tale of the bold gladiator slave who organizes the uprising and takes on the power of Imperial Rome at its glorious height. Features a marvelous score by Alex North. Contains commentaries from Douglas, Ustinov and others.
LaserDisc Picture:
The restoration by Robert A. Harris is superb as is the pristine image quality and stunning color fidelity of the film to video transfer.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The music, by Alex North, is a marvelously rich score recorded no doubt on one of the old magnificent sound stages using minimal stereo miking. It has a lush, warm, and panoramic soundscape that heightens the sensorial experience of this widescreen presentation.
