WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Wind is Carroll Ballard’s superlative action-packed competitive sailing movie which captures the physical and intellectual excitement of the sport. The story is about America’s Cup yacht racing which emphasizes the metaphysics, aggressive athleticism, and split-second decision making involved with the sport. This is a film that constantly amazes with the seemingly impossible technical achievements on the water beautifully photographed and matted to 1.85:1. The stress of competition and winning is omnipresent and splendidly weaved in the personal relationships of helmsman Matthew Modine and engineering designer Jennifer Grey.

LaserDisc Picture:
The transfer is picture perfect and John Toll’s cinematography is absolutely stunning, if not breathtaking. Colors are crisp with accurate fleshtones.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound matches the scope of the film with an aggressive Dolby Surround® that puts you out to sea and in the midst of the racing excitement.
