WSR Narrative Review |
| |
Story Synopsis:
A special two-disc treatment of Jules Verne’s classic underwater submarine saga. Bonuses on this disc include behind-the-scenes clips with Walt Disney and the actors, storyboards, archival production photographs and more.
LaserDisc Picture:
The film has been transferred digitally to the early CinemaScope® aspect ratio 2.55:1. The picture quality is very good and the original widescreen composition adds to the atmospheric sense of the movie. The image is a bit dark in contrast and lacks shadow detail. Fleshtones and color balance is good as is the clarity and sharpness.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is a poor representation of the original MagOptical Stereophonic Sound. It is compressed, harsh and low-fidelity. The dialogue, Foley and other effects are virtually mono on this presentation. With the exception of the giant squid battle there is no perceptible surround.
