WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
A Christmas Story is based on the novel In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash by humorist Jean Shepherd. It is a whimsical and slightly twisted tribute to the traditional all-American Christmas. Set in Indiana during the 1940s, the film follows the adventures of nine-year-old Ralphie Parker (Peter Billingsley) as he pursues his happiness in the form of a genuine Red Ryder Carbine Action Two Hundred Shot Lightning Loader Range Model Air Rifle.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture on this disc is acceptable but with subdued, faded color. Color fidelity is a trifle inconsistent and fleshtones do not impart a natural hue. The picture elements has some noticeable noise artifacts. The aspect ratio is 1.83:1.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is unfortunately monophonic and extremely limited. It does not impart the dynamics or dimensionality of modern soundtracks. The dialogue is clear, particularly the wonderful narrative to the story.
