Clint Eastwood returns as The Man With No Name, the quick-witted bounty hunter who is hot on the trail of vicious killer El Indio (Gian Maria Volonte), but arch rival Colonel Douglas Mortimer (Lee Van Cleef) is trying to beat him to the bandit. Unable to shake the other off and thwarted by Indio and his henchmen, the two decide to team up to capture him—dead or alive.
