WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Trapeze is based upon the novel “The Killing Frost” by Max Catto and the screen adaptation of Liam O’Brien. It was shot in the actual Cirque d’Hiver in Paris France. The story is about an aspiring trapeze artist named Tino Orsini (Tony Curtis) who comes to Paris to find Mike Ribble (Burt Landcaster), a retired flyer who can teach him the triple somersault. Ribble is one of only six men in the world who ever threw a triple but injured himself in an attempt. After Ribble eventually agrees to teach Orsini the triple they form a two-act. Another aerialist, the beautiful Lola (Gina Lollobrigida), maneuvers her way into the act and uses them both to further her own ambition which threatens their success.

LaserDisc Picture:
The cinematography is wonderful and the overall picture is pleasing, although there are plenty of print artifacts and the picture has been cropped and repositioned at 2.40:1.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack was originally in Perspecta® Stereophonic Sound but is presented here in mono. The sound is extremely compressed and in no way does it suggest the stereo experience of the original soundtrack.
