WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Black Sunday is based on the novel by Thomas Harris in which a Black September terrorist group attempts to blow up a Goodyear blimp hovering over the Super Bowl stadium with 80,000 people, and the President of the United States in attendance. Marthe Keller plays the terrorist agent who masterminds the plot and recruits a deranged Vietnam veteran played by Bruce Dern to work with her and her comrades who are obsessed with a cause for which they will die. Robert Shaw plays an Israeli commando who discovers the plot and pursues the terrorists.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture appears to be sourced from a print. The image area has been re-composed during transfer then matted to appear 2.35:1, although it measures 2.32:1. Color fidelity and color balance is seriously off. Fleshtones are not accurate and there is a slight grain throughout. Dark scenes are too dark with limited shadow detail. Overall, the picture exhibits a dark and confined quality.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished by its monaural mix and lack of fine resolution.
