WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Against All Odds is a remake of an old 1947 RKO picture, “Out Of The Past.” It is a story of passion, murder and betrayal, set on location in Mexico and Los Angeles, about a man who falls in love with the woman he has been paid to find for another man. James Woods plays a ruthless bookie who hires ex-football star (Jeff Bridges) to find his runaway love (Rachel Ward) who is determined to stay away from the pressures of her life, both with him and her rich and famous developer-parents who own Bridges team, The Outlaws. Bridges finds her in Mexico and together they fall in love, only to be torn apart by circumstances of disaster and corruption.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.85:1. Scenes are a bit overbright and there is apparent grain throughout. Fleshtones are generally rendered accurately and color is well balanced. Shadow detail is poor, as is overall picture detail and sharpness, and some scenes appear washed out.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has a wonderful music score that produces an effective emotional sound effect. There are the occasional surround effect, but otherwise this is essentially a monaural soundtrack.
