WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Six Degrees Of Separation is a social satire adapted from the stage play by John Guare. It features Will Smith as Paul, a young man who successfully charms his way into the lives of Manhattan art dealers Ouisa and Flan Kittredge, wonderfully played by Donald Sutherland and Mary Beth Hurt. The couple open their doors to Paul after he had been victimized by a mugging in Central Park. Soon thereafter, Paul enchants his hosts with fine cooking and tales of being Sidney Poitier’s son. Lasting impressions are made and deceived as Paul cunningly manipulates his way into the Kittredges’ world.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture composition accurately ad-heres to the Panavison® 2.35:1 ratio. This is a real looker with vibrant colors, natural fleshtones, excellent contrast and good shadow detail. Images are sharply defined with just a sense of unnaturally excessive brightness in interior scenes. Solid and clean, there are no artifacts to mar the excellent picture quality.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is excellent, imparting the experience of natural dialogue in real spaces. Essentially produced in mono, there is, however, a bit of subtle surround ambience.
