WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Man Without A Face, based on the novel by Isabelle Holland, is Mel Gibson’s directorial debut. Gibson who stars as Justin McLeod, plays a re-cluse with a disfigurement, causing the townsfolk to speculate about his tragic past in which he was accused of child molestation. A chance en-counter with 13-year old Chuck Norstadt, (Nick Stahl), causes the boy to have a fascination with this intelligent and misunderstood man. Upon a subsequent meeting, the boy turns to McLeod for tutoring so that he can attain his goal to win a boarding school scholarship. Their relationship develops and they discover each other’s emotional secrets that lead to a friendship that has a healing power for McLeod and en-riches the boy’s transition to adulthood.
