WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Manhattan Murder Mystery is Woody Allen’s hilarious comedy—a mystery—that reunites him with Alan Alda, Anjelica Huston and Diane Keaton. Carol Lipton (Keaton) is a bored Manhattan housewife who convinces herself that her neighbor has committed murder. Her husband, Larry (Woody Allen), is skeptical and rejects the idea. Carol turns to a friend (Alan Alda) to help her search for clues and their interest in each other grows. Larry reluctantly joins the chase, only to learn that more than his marriage is at stake.

LaserDisc Picture:
Matted to 1.85:1, the picture is well composed photographically. The picture has a very natural, warm look with a soft focus. Colors are consistently accurate. Flesh tone hues are exemplary and interior scenes are rendered naturally. This is a terrific looking film that is sure to please.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished by its monaural mix which has become a trademark of Woody Allen. He simply chooses to ignore better sound. The original advertisements incorrectly promoted Dolby Stereo SR®, as do the film credits, but correctly, no such credit appears on the LaserDisc jacket.
