WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
What’s Love Got To Do With It is based upon “I, Tina” by Tina Turner and Kurt Loder and stars both Oscar® nominated Angela Bassett as Tina and Laurence Fishburne as the often malevolent Ike Turner. The story charts her discovery by Ike who also creates her image and molds her singing style. Only after being abused for many years does she finally find the strength and courage to leave Ike and re-discover herself to become the great performer that she is. Her high energy performances are highlighted in fantastic musical sequences that span over three decades.

LaserDisc Picture:
The transfer is framed at 1.70:1. The otherwise excellent visual quality is marred by excessive noise artifacts, grain and unnatural flesh tones. The soft filtered photography provides a visual look that is natural.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is superb—spacious, dynamic, and well recorded. The music selections are, of course, the show!
