WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
All The President’s Men is a classic suspense drama from Director Alan J. Pakula (The Pelican Brief, Presumed Innocent). A tense, historically faithful film with mounting suspense depicting the early days of the Watergate Democratic Party headquarters attempted burglary and the subsequent investigation that ultimately proves to be the downfall of a President. Robert Redford and Dustin Hoffman star as probing Washington reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein, whose best selling book the film is based upon, devoutly follow the currents of controversy surrounding the political explosive Watergate affair as it is happening. It is a riveting look at a working newspaper, where its journalistic mission is to get the story and get it right. The rest is history.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.88:1. The cinematography has a soft focus with natural fleshtones and a natural film look overall. Shadow detail is good as are blacks. The transfer is noise free with virtually no artifacts except for a slight grain.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is presented in monaural. Dialogue is harsh and strident. There is virtually no bass extension or dynamics.
