WSR Narrative Review |
|
Story Synopsis:
PCU is a comedic satire about college life in the ’90s which takes a swipe at all the “politically correct” protesters, over-reactive activists, stoners, computer nerds and pretentious Preppies and other suspect life forms on campus. Tom Lawrence, played by Chris Young, is a wide-eyed pre-frosh who arrives at Connecticut’s Port Chester University to decide if the school is for him, and gets caught in the middle of a plot instigated by an elitist band of right-wing-worshipping Preppies to reclaim “The Pit,” a vibrantly shabby co-ed dorm where “everything goes,” for their underground fraternity. The Pit’s perpetual undergrad, Droz (Jeremy Piven), tries to maintain disorder under the threat of eviction while orientating the pre-frosh. The solution: throw a last blow-out bash to raise money to save the day.
LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture’s overall quality is in-consistent with inaccurate fleshtones that are purplish hued. There is apparent grain in the dark scenes and scenes lack shadow detail.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is extremely well recorded with a continuous music score by pop artists. Good surround envelopment and natural dialogue presence with room tone.
