WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Getting Even With Dad is an entertaining family comedy starring Macaulay Culkin as Timmy, a crafty kid neglected by his irresponsible petty theif of a father, Ray Gleason (Ted Danson), who cunningly blackmails his dad into responsible parenthood. Ray steals a million dollar collection of rare coins, a heist promised to be his last before going straight, but when son Timmy arrives for a surprise visit, things change and negotiations are in order. Timmy steals the stolen goods and announces that he’ll give it back only on the condition that Ray do “quality time” as a real father. This is a funny and sweet comedy with a high enjoy factor.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture quality is overall pleasing with good image detail, natural fleshtones and good contrast. Night scenes are solid and blacks are deep. No artifacts or grain or noise mar this 1.85:1 matted transfer.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Surround soundtrack fails to provide a convincing sense of ambient en-velopment. Fidelity is wanting and the screen soundstage is mostly constricted except for the music score.
