WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
WarGames is an intelligent suspense thriller about David Lightman (Broderick) a young computer hacker who unwittingly taps into the U.S. Defense Department’s master war computer and accidentally initiates a most deadly game of thermonuclear war—a game in which no one can win. Severe danger escalates and, to halt the nuclear Armageddon, David, his girlfriend (Sheedy) and a harried computer scientist (Wood), must work against time and unimaginable tension to dismantle the computer.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is matted at the 35mm wide-screen 1.85:1 aspect ratio on this disc but was released as a 70mm blowup presentation as well. Color is subdued and has a blue steel cold effect. The picture is undefined and soft overall but with good contrast. Fleshtones are pale and unnatural. Both grain and noise is apparent as well as some artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The mixed soundtrack has a music score that is sometimes dynamic and defined with surround envelopment and some directional effects, but is essentially mono in most scenes. Without direction, effects and fidelilty is wanting.
