WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Pat Morita returns as Mr. Miyagi in the latest sequel to the Karate Kid series, The Next Karate Kid. This time the new Karate student is a rebellious teenage girl named Julie (Hilary Swank). Julie is counseled by Mr. Miyagi and three Buddhist Monks, and grows to adulthood from adolescence while kicking-butt on a gang of military students who control the other kids at her high school. Along the way she learns to love and be-comes less rebellious and more sensitive. These films are not really about Karate after all, they are coming-of-age stories. If you liked the others, you’ll probably enjoy this one too. And who says the good guy has to be a guy?

LaserDisc Picture:
The matted 1.85:1 picture is extremely sharp and detailed with vibrant colors, excellent contrast and good shadow detail. Fleshtones are accurate and the overall picture is naturally rendered for a first-rate presentation.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has excellent dialogue presence that puts people in real spaces, an enveloping music score, and good fidelity and dynamics.
