WSR Narrative Review |

Story Synopsis:
Al Jarreau’s Tenderness is the visual counterpoint to his new album of the same name and the first companion longform from the acclaimed R&B/Jazz performer. Recorded live before an invited audience on a Hollywood soundstage, this unique 2.0:1 window-boxed widescreen video presentation features the Grammy Award-winning Jarreau and a superstar ensemble playing classics from his back pages as well as dramatic renditions of pop standards.
LaserDisc Picture:
The video is presented as two distinct elements a documentary with Jarreau and Miller discussing the project in 1.33:1 and the actual performances framed at 2.0:1. The sharp and detailed picture is solid with natural fleshtones. This is a real treat for fans of Al Jarreau’s Jazz and R&B stylings.GR n
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The group, lead by record producer and bassist Marcus Miller, is a dream ensemble which includes Joe Sample on keyboards, Paulinho da Costa on percussion, drummer Steve Gadd and Eric Gale on guitar. The re-cording was mixed by Bill Schnee and is absolutely stunning in fidelity, dynamics, clarity and soundstage presence, especially when played in the Six-Axis mode of our Citation 7.0. Please, no movie EQ on this soundtrack.
