Story Synopsis:
Top Secret! was made by the comedy team who brought you all the Airplane! and Naked Gun® movies. According to its billing “it does for ‘spy’ epics and Elvis films what Airplane! did for disaster movies.” Val Kilmer stars as a 1950’s style American rock and roll singer on a tour behind the Iron Curtain. Many outrageous sight gags in rapid succession combined with lots of singing and dancing make for an uproariously funny experience. Especially amusing is Peter Cushing’s eye gag bit. This film, say confidential sources, may be the reason that there is no longer an East Germany. Top Secret! is a fun and silly madcap spy spoof to be enjoyed by the whole family.
LaserDisc Picture:
The picture has been matted at 1.85:1. Fleshtones are inconsistent, but the overall imagery is detailed and sharp with solid blacks. Some minor artifacts are apparent as is noise and grain in the darker scenes.
LaserDisc Soundtrack:
Surround envelopment is subtle on this Dolby Surround® soundtrack and is limited to the Maurice Jarre music score and to the occasional surround effect. While the sound is generally dynamic fidelity varies and the sound is a touch bright. Bass extension is wanting as well.
