WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The President’s Analyst is a crazy mixed-up comedy that pokes fun at government control and paranoia. James Coburn plays the esteemed psychiatrist Dr. Schaefer who is privileged to be chosen as analyst to the President of the United States. Constantly at the beck and call of the President and under the control of the government agencies CEA and FBR, his private and professional life become suspect as hostile governments try to learn his secrets. With the constant threat from agents out to kill him Dr. Schaefer seeks to escape and joins some hippie musicians on their way to a “love-in” where he finds help in the form of two crazy secret agents played by Godfrey Cambridge and Severn Darden.

LaserDisc Picture:
The scope image is framed at 2.32:1 and is from a print element that is dark overall. Fleshtones are inaccurate, color fidelity is poor, and detail is wanting as images appear to be clogged. Artifacts, grain and noise are visible throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack features a terrific music score by Lalo Schifrin, however the sound is dated and fidelity is wanting. Dialogue is recorded with real room tone for a natural effect, even if undistinguished monaural.
