WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Mixed Nuts is another Hollywood translation of French films, this time the re-make of France’s 1982 black comedy, Le Père Noël Est Une Ordure, a farce about a suicide hotline in Paris during the traditional Christmas season. With Mixed Nuts, Oscar®-nominated screenwriter, Nora Ephron (Silkwood, Best Screenplay, 1983) directs and paints a zany off-kilter holiday comedy. The scene is Los An-geles and what a perfect location for an off-beat Christmas. Christmas in L.A. with its endless sunshine is a bizarre time, filled with people who have moved away from their families.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is matted at 1.87:1. The Sony HD transfer quality is problematic with inaccurate color fidelity and fleshtones and reds that are unnaturally orange. The picture, however, is without distracting grain, noise or artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The sound is conventional movie stereo with subtle surround envelopment provided by the music score and the occasional effect. Otherwise the soundtrack is mono.
