WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Irwin Allen’s The Towering Inferno won three Academy Awards® for 1974 for Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, and Best Song. Architect Doug Roberts (Paul Newman) and developer James Duncan (William Holden) have built the world’s tallest skyscraper. It’s a 138 story technical marvel in San Francisco. While the official opening party is in progress on the 135th floor, a fire breaks out on the 81st floor trapping the party guests. Can the fire chief (McQueen) save anyone?

LaserDisc Picture:
Framed at 2.32:1 the sharp and detailed picture is gorgeous with natural fleshtones and enhanced vivid colors. Solid with no artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The stereo sound is poor being essentially undistinguished mono in character.
