WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
The Associate stars Whoopi Goldberg as Laurel Ayres, a strong-willed executive, working her way up the corporate ladder when a backstabbing co-worker (Tim Daly) steals her promotion. Ayres builds her own investment company, creating her own ficticious white male business partner named Mr. Robert S. Cutty. Turns out, Mr. Cutty becomes Wall Street’s hottest financial whiz—leaving Laurel, herself, no choice but to impersonate him to save her company.

LaserDisc Picture:
The 1.85:1 picture exhibits fully saturated colors with natural fleshtones, excellent color fidelity and deep solid blacks. Images are sharp and detailed, with excellent shadow detail and only the slightest noise and artifacts are apparent in some scenes.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtracks are very similar, though the Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete version has a slightly wider soundstage. The music score is well recorded. Ambiant sound effects are in stereo, but surround envelopment is not particularly aggressive. Both the matrix and discrete soundtracks are sure to please.
