WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on his award-winning play, Sam Shepard stars in Fool For Love as Eddie, a down-and-out cowboy drifter who finds his ex-girlfriend, May (Kim Basinger) taking refuge from him in a seedy New Mexico desert motel. Their passionate love-hate relationship explodes when Eddie stops in to reclaim her. They immediately take over where they left off in a knock-down, drag-out fight that carries on across the grounds of the motel. When May’s sensitive escort, Martin (Randy Quaid), arrives for an innocent date, he is quick to realize he has walked directly into a hornet’s nest. A “raw elemental tragicomedy” Fool For Love is an often a funny look at love, rage and jealousy and a sure-fire winner for fans of Shepard’s work.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.88:1, exhibits generally good color fidelity with natural fleshtones and deep solid, but undefined blacks. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail, but shadow detail is generally good. Noise and artifacts are apparent throughout.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is produced in undistinguished monaural and is a disappointment for a 1985 movie. The stereo experience could have been terrific.
