WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Based on Henry S. Villard and James Nagel’s book, In Love And War depicts the picturesque and sweeping drama about two lovers seeking their own peace in the midst of World War I. Sandra Bullock stars as the bold medical aide Agnes von Kurowsky who, during the crossfire of a world at war, saves a young soldier’s leg from amputation. From that point on, she becomes entwined in a clandestine romance with the soldier, the legendary Ernest Hemmingway (Chris O’Donnell).

LaserDisc Picture:
The Panavision® 2.38:1 picture is beautiful, with accurate fleshtones, excellent color fidelity and deep solid blacks. The natural looking images are sharp and detailed with excellent shadow detail and contrast. The slightest noise is apparent in some scenes, but there are no distracting artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack has a terrific music score that is beautifully recorded and sounds slightly warmer on the matrix PCM version. The Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete soundtrack offers excellent soundstage imaging, deep bass and subtle surrounds. Dialogue sounds natural with excellent spatial integration.
