WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Spider Baby is an off-beat, low-budget horror film known under other titles as Cannibal Orgy: Or The Maddest Story Ever Told and The Liver Eaters. Lon Chaney, Jr. stars as Bruno, guardian to the last remaining members of a luckless family, all of whom suffer from the dreaded Merrye Syndrome—a disease causing progressive regression into infantile mentality. The family’s extensive deterioration has led to innocent, but savage cannibalism and when they are threatened by the arrival of “normal” interlopers, the term “family values” takes on a whole new and blackly comic meaning. Includes footage of the cast and crew at the 30th Anniversary Reunion at Nuarte Theatre in Los Angeles and commentary by writer/director Jack Hill.

LaserDisc Picture:
The black and white picture exhibits an inconsistent grayscale that is sometimes washed out. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail with poor contrast and mediocre shadow detail. Major and distracting artifacts and print scratches are sometimes apparent. The aspect ratio is measured at 1.66:1

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished and compressed monaural.
