WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Neil Jordan’s Mona Lisa stars Bob Hoskins (in an Oscar® nominated role) as George, a small-time loser who finds employment as a chauffer to the enigmatic, high-class call girl Simone (Cathy Tyson in a stunning film debut). His fascination with her leads him on a dangerous Promethan quest for happiness through the sordid, hellish underbelly of London—where love is a weakness to be exploited and betrayed. Mona Lisa is a picture filled with desperation and misunderstanding between two individuals for whom love is not an option.

LaserDisc Picture:
Matted at 1.75:1, the picture exhibits inconsistencies in color fidelity, although fleshtones and blacks are generally accurate throughout. Images are generally sharp and detailed, but are marred with noise and artifacts that make some scenes look “muddy.”

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural with production hum and noise and inconsistent fidelity.
