WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Waterworld is an explosive, high seas action adventure depicting mankind’s future plight to survive the aftermath of a water-covered Earth. Kevin Costner stars as the Mariner, a mysterious mutant drifter with webbed feet and gills, forced to save Enola (Tina Majorino), a young girl with a mysterious map tattooed on her back, and her adoptive mother, Helen (Jeanne Tripplehorn). Soon the Mariner is forced into a war to save Enola from the evil Deacon (Dennis Hopper) who is out for the map tattoo that leads to Dryland.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture is the same 1.85:1 transfer as reviewed in Issue 18, exhibiting superb quality in all aspects.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The DTS® Digital Surround soundtrack projects a dynamic and aggressive surround presence that envelops completely into a holosonic soundfield experience. The sound design effectively uses the split surround capability of the 5.1 discrete format and presents a more open soundfield presence compared to the matrix PCM soundtrack. Objects are heard distinctly positioned around the thrilling dimensional soundfield.
