WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Bob Hope stars in Call Me Bwana as Matt Merriweather, a phony explorer on jungle life sent to the African Congo to recover a top secret American space capsule that has crash landed there. Joined by the beautiful Frederika Larsen (Edie Adams), Merriweather is forced to reach the destination before the Russians do. Unbeknownst to him, Luba (Anita Ekberg), a Soviet spy posing as a scientist has her eyes on the space probe and uses her knockout looks to get invited—along with her fraudulent missionary father (Lionel Jeffries)—on the mission with Merriweather. Call Me Bwana is a “breezy comedy” and is sure to please fans of Bob Hope.

LaserDisc Picture:
Matted at 1.85:1, the picture looks slightly dated, but color fidelity is good with generally natural fleshtones and deep, solid blacks. There are some slight inconsistencies in color fidelity. Images are sometimes wanting in sharpness and detail. Shadow detail is good and there is minimal noise. Minor artifacts apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural which sounds dated, compressed and distorted.
