WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Pretty In Pink brings together those famous 1980’s brat packers Molly Ringwald (The Breakfast Club, Sixteen Candles) and Andrew McCarthy (St. Elmo’s Fire) as two awkward love struck teenagers from two different sides of town. She’s a student from a modest single parent home. He’s a rich kid. Together they discover romance and the high school prom. A bittersweet story that explores those grueling teen politics of love, popularity and growing up.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.85:1, exhibits generally natural color fidelity with vibrant and warm colors, accurate fleshtones and deep solid blacks. Sometimes colors seem a bit oversaturated and unnatural. Shadow detail is mediocre, sometimes lacking definition and there is slight noise apparent in darker scenes. Some minor artifacts are detected, but noise is minimal.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is conventional sounding with a stereo music score and muffled dialogue that is wanting in naturalness and spatial integration. Occasionally, sound effects are presented in stereo. Often, the music score sounds bright and edgy Overall, this is a mediocre soundtrack.
