WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
When a shipment from South America destined for the natural History Museum in Chicago results in the decapitations of a crew of seamen and a guard at the museum, Dr. Margo Green (Miller) joins forces with Lt. Vincent D’Agosta (Sizemore) to stop the non-human killer in The Relic. Based on the novel by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.

LaserDisc Picture:
The Panavision® Scope picture is framed at 2.25:1, and is dark overall. Generally, color fidelity is natural with warm colors, accurate fleshtones and deep blacks. Images are sharp and detailed but shadow detail is mediocre. Disappointingly, some scenes are too dark to really see the creature. Noise is apparent, but there are no artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The Dolby® Digital 5.1 discrete and PCM matrix soundtracks are dramatically different with the matrix sounding dull and veiled. The music score is well recorded and dynamic with natural sounding dialogue. The discrete version delivers split sound effects and intensifies the terror of the film.
