WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Released theatrically as Arabian Knight, The Thief And The Cobbler tells a tale long before the legends of Aladdin and Ali Baba, when the terrible One Eyes set their sights on the undefeated city of Baghdad. When Tack (Matthew Broderick), the shy cobbler of the beautiful Princess Yum Yum (Jennifer Beals), discovers that the city’s three protective Golden Balls have been stolen from the top of the castle and placed in the hands of the evil wizard Zigzag (Vincent Price), he realizes they must be recovered or else the city will be doomed. An exotic mosaic of classic 21/2 dimension hand painted animation, The Thief And The Cobbler is sure to please.

LaserDisc Picture:
The animated picture, framed at 2.35:1, presents solid colors and images that are sharp and detailed. Colors are not quite as vibrant and realistic as other animated features, but is a unique looking mosaic of colors and shapes with only minor artifacts.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is nicely presented with a terrific music score that is well recorded, but wanting in deep bass presence. Sound effects are often directionalized and sure to please.
