WSR Narrative Review
Story Synopsis:
Nathaniel Hawthorne’s Twice-Told Tales is presented in a double feature with another Vincent Price film, but Tower Of London is unfortunately not featured in it’s original widescreen format. Twice-Told Tales combines three of Hawthorne’s most famous stories—each one starring Vincent Price and introduced by a skeleton’s hand opening the cover of the book. In the first tale, Dr. Heidegger’s Experiment, two old friends discover the horrifying secret to eternal life. Rappaccini’s Daughter is the second episode, about a cursed young woman’s lethal touch of love. And The House Of The Seven Gables (which also starred Price in the feature-length 1940 version) is the gruesome finale about a man who returns to the house of his birth only to discover that a vengeful spirit has fatal plans for his arrival.

LaserDisc Picture:
The picture, matted at 1.64:1, often looks unnatural and dated with yellowish colors and fleshtones and weak blacks. Images are wanting in sharpness and detail with poor, murky shadow detail. Slight noise and occasional artifacts are apparent.

LaserDisc Soundtrack:
The soundtrack is undistinguished monaural that sounds compressed.
